I was recently asked why it is, that I do what I do - Why do I dress women and young women in warrior costume and photograph them - I was asked how I felt about someone else doing what I do. Here is my reply; Ask yourself, why do you want to do it? Any of you that have known me for a while will know that I have suffered greatly in my life, I have also survived and loved. I have traveled and learned. I have married and lost a husband to cancer, I have also learned to hate myse ... lf through guilt. After everything I have been though, I learned that I still had to LOVE. If I have learned anything at all in life, it is that I AM A WARRIOR and I can learn how to be happy. I began photographing women almost 20 years ago and I did it because I wanted to make the women I was photographing feel powerful and strong - which made me feel powerful and strong - it was MY THERAPY. I come from a culture, an island where people had to be strong and survive. My culture and life is what taught me to be a warrior. The reason I photograph it through my costume and makeup is because I am photographing what it is TO BE ME. Anyone who wishes to become INSPIRED - to do what I do, should understand this and ask yourself IS THIS WHO YOU ARE? Is this your culture? Because if you are in it for the money, it WILL show in your artwork.
